Something that got me scratching my head recently was how I could record the screen zoom level as an Action in Photoshop. As I’ve previously said I use quite a few actions in my workflow that setup various layers for me and it always bothered me that I couldn’t get my actions to zoom the image to 100% for tasks like spot removal, dodging & burning etc. After a lot of reading and a major ‘duh’ moment I finally figured it out and here’s how its done.

With your action in record navigate to the little fly out menu in the actions palette and select ‘Insert Menu Item’.

The following dialogue will open:

To set the action to view your image at 100% go to the ‘View’ menu, select ‘Actual Pixels’ and press ‘Okay’.

Your image might not change straight away but if you play back your action the image will zoom to 100%. If you want you can keep adding menu items like ‘Full Screen’ mode, Zoom Out, Zoom In etc. For example, as the image is at 100% inserting two ‘Zoom Out’ commands should bring you to 50% zoom.
