Blog 2.0

When I thought about starting a blog my motivation was simple. I wanted to use it to focus on all aspects of my development as a photographer, post some personal work and write about photography related subjects that I found interesting. The reality is that by my not setting aside enough time to concentrate on blogging I’ve found myself getting far too hung up on what to post, resulting in irregular posts with very little worth other than showcasing images from some of my portrait sessions. Not really what I originally had in mind. Yes, I’ve been busy with shoots, having a baby and generally getting on with life but I’m getting a little fed up of these excuses and neglecting my little slice of the interwebs.

Even though I’ve been thinking about it for a while it was this seminar given by photographers David Nightingale, David Hobby & Chase Jarvis that gave me a kick up the backside. Whilst watching I realised that I’d made the mistake of using my blog solely as way to promote my business, a tool to help market my portrait work. I won’t deny that having a blog has helped achieve this (there’s absolutely nothing wrong with a bit of self-promotion) but I can’t help but feel like I’ve strayed from my initial intentions.

So, I’m going to approach my blog a little differently from now on. Apart from the obvious changes to the layout and the long overdue addition of pricing, session information and FAQ pages, the big change will be the with the content. Don’t panic, I’m not going to start posting pictures of my cats (unless they’re awesome of course) but I’m certainly going to share more of my experiences, work and life in the world of photography.

Finally, I have to apologise to any of you who are subscribed to the previous RSS feed. I’ve been updating the pictures from previous posts so there’s every chance your feed reader has gone a little crazy! If you haven’t subscribed then allow me to point out the handy ‘RSS’ subscribe button on the navigation bar:)
